As a graduate student studying video games, I have found the need process various ideas and concepts surrounding games. The purpose of this website is to provide a mix of commercial and academic. Some of the things that will be discussed are interesting design aspects of commercial and indie games, game reviews, academic discussions of game studies and theories, book reviews, and announcements of interesting articles and concepts (hopefully including some of my own papers). This website is designed as a food for thought for anyone interested in games and academia, from research and theory to design and implementation. So welcome and please feel free to join the conversation.
I am currently a doctoral student in the Educational Communications and Technology program at New York University. I have an Ed.S. and M.A. in School Psychology from James Madison University and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Central Florida. So why am I writing about games? Well it comes from a deep seeded interest as a gamer as well as my research focus. I am also currently a research assistant for the Games for Learning Institute. The purpose of the Institute is to create methodologies for studying games and to determine if it is possible to make video games that are both fun and show measurable learning outcomes. My own research focuses on video game player psychology and behavior while playing games.
